In-progress lampshade created using various metal making disciplines- CNC plasma cutting, angle grinding, etching, filing, welding, and sanding. Each panel represents different aspects that make up myself: Fears, Desires, Lessons, Memories, and Heritage. An exploration of my identity as the first-born daughter to two immigrants. In its final form, the audience is meant to observe the negative spaces lit up on a wall surrounding them.
The Bastard. The final piece consists of a vintage wedding dress carefully tied to the pedestal, symbolizing the entrapment that is the old fashioned concept of marriage. I hand sewed various lengths of beads coming from the “womb”, representing blood, which has a significant role in both life and death. I wanted this piece to consider all of the nuances surrounding the social clock theory through the lens of childbirth before marriage.
5-4-3-2-1. A mindful mobile that captures the visual attention of its viewer in an effort to ground them and evoke feelings of nostalgia and serenity. Made up of 36 gauge brass hand-embossed charms each representing a different object or object in nature that one can connect to during overwhelming times.
Inspired from an 18th century British enameled tea caddy at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, this trinket box was created around the dimensions of my old Nikon digital camera. The outside fabric of the box is a vintage floral linen sourced from the NYC garment district, lined with a vintage velvet ribbon imported from France. All other materials were found objects already in my possession.
A set of a Chawan (matcha bowl) and Chasan stand (whisk holder) used in a matcha making workshop hosted by myself.
A multidisciplinary project resulting in a peach inspired box. I first created orthographic drawings and models, then casted and molded hexagonal forms in plaster and soap, and lastly created a decorative peach inspired frame from various yarns to hold my casted forms.
